Simply Noise - A Lifejacket for Office Workers

Summer can be a shitter. Never mind the almost comically terrible weather we've been having, by far the most annoying part of a summer in Britain, is the fact that I have to work. And to be more specific, the fact that I have to work in an office.

Office work is bordering on hellish at the best of times, but the summer is undeniably the worst time to be forcibly shut in to a small overheated room with lots of people you don't know terribly well but whom you're required to tolerate. The season seems to bring out the worst in everyone. Maybe its to do with the raised excitement levels due to later evenings, marginally less shit weather than we're used to, and the possibility of holidays. But its unbearable. Listening to other people tell you about their holidays is one step up from hearing about their dreams, and we all know how awful that is.

All in all, levels of irritating meaningless gossip are greatly increased during the summer months, and though I realise that this advice might have been better appreciated towards the beginning of the summer rather than as its drawing to a close, I think I've discovered the solution.

Simply Noise is quite honestly the greatest web-based discovery I've ever made. It's a real Ronseal case - it is quite simply, noise - being nothing more complicated than a constant stream of white noise which you can turn up to whatever volume best excludes the otherwise incessant background chatter generated by your irritating colleagues. All you need is a pair of headphones and you're good to go.

Of course, if you work in an office where wearing a pair of headphones goes against some unwritten rules of office etiquette procedure, then this is of no help at all. Except of course the possibility that its made you realise just how badly you need to escape...

Sanity rescued - thanks

Thanks for this, Kris. When I first looked at the website, I thought you were taking the piss. But now I'm listening to it at my desk all the time, and it has changed my life - it's completely blocking out the moron in my office who hums out of tune continuously, and I feel relaxed and slightly detached from reality. Which can only be a good thing.

Not sure whether it's helping me get any work done, but it has definitely improved my mental state.

Brown/red's my favourite.

Great site, yeah I agree

Great site, yeah I agree brown is the best, it blocks out most noise. Hooray for Robert Brown haha.
